Canine Wellness

Regular wellness care will keep your dog healthy for a long lifetime to spend with you and your family. Essex Animal Hospital’s comprehensive wellness care program for dogs includes:

  • An annual physical examination
  • Dental exam
  • Vaccinations tailored specially for your dog
  • Flea and tick testing and prevention
  • Heartworm testing and prevention

Our veterinarians will form an individualized wellness care plan for your dog that caters to his or her needs based on factors including breed, physical condition, lifestyle, and immunization history.

Nutritional counseling is an important part of wellness care for your dog. During counseling, we will monitor your dog’s weight so we can recommend any necessary modifications in their diet or exercise. A healthy body weight is important for your dog to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

On the day of the wellness appointment, we ask that you bring your dog on a leash or in a secure carrier with a recent stool sample, ideally less than twelve hours old.

These appointments are also an excellent time for you to address any questions you may have about your pet’s health. Please call us today to schedule an appointment or request more information.

Vaccinations

Vaccinating your dog keeps your dog healthy by preventing serious diseases. At Essex Animal Hospital, we tailor vaccines for each dog. Dogs have different lifestyles and risks of exposure. Each dog is given individual attention and consideration at vaccination time. We take everything into consideration from your pet’s age and lifestyle, including exposure to the outdoors, travel plans, boarding plans to breed, health status, and immune competence. These factors may change over time, so we will review your pet’s vaccination plan at each wellness exam.

Discuss with us what you have planned for your dog’s life in the months ahead and what has happened in the past. Information about vaccination reactions in the past is of critical importance for your dog’s safety during future vaccinations, so be sure to discuss your dog’s vaccination history with us.
